Travel grants for 2025 ECSR Annual Conference in Cologne

The ECSR offers several Travel Grants to participate in the 2025 ECSR Annual Conference in Cologne (3 to 5 September 2025) for PhD students and researchers from institutions in EU “Inclusiveness Target Countries” (for list see below).

The grant is designed to contribute up to 1,000 EUR for travel and accommodation costs, conference fee and conference dinner.

The opening date for applications is March 5, 2025, and the closing date is March 15, 2025. Decisions on grants will be made by April 5, 2025.

Eligibility and rules

  • Applicants must be from an institution in one of the EU “Inclusiveness Target Countries” (for list see below).
  • Applicants must have their abstract accepted for (co-)presentation (paper or poster) at the 2025 ECSR Annual Conference in Cologne.
  • Priority will be given to researchers in the early stages of their career.
  • The ECSR Board will assess the applications.
  • The grant covers travel and accommodation costs (for the period of the conference), the conference fee (registration via early bird fee is required) and conference dinner. It does not cover additional expenses during the conference stay, such as local transportation, food, insurance, or additional days. Reimbursement will only be made if the grant holder (co-)presents the paper/poster at the conference. Detailed rules for reimbursement are available here.

How to apply
Send your application by e-mail to ecsr-visitinggrant@wzb.eu with

  • A cover letter: Include your name, current institutional affiliation, career status (student, faculty etc.), and an itemized approximate cost calculation for your conference visit.
  • Proof of acceptance of paper/poster for the 2025 ECSR Annual Conference: An email acceptance letter from the local organizing team in Cologne, showing the accepted abstract number.
  • The abstract of the accepted paper/poster.
